Stabbing at Washington state high school injures 6, including suspect

TACOMA: Tacoma police responded to a possible stabbing at a high school and found four students and one adult security guard injured, authorities said Thursday.

Tacoma Police Department spokeswoman Shelbie Boyd said the suspect, a student, was in custody and was injured.

He said all the injured, including the suspect, were taken to hospital.

The Fire Department responded to Foss High School for a possible stabbing at 1:38 p.m., spokeswoman Chelsea Shepherd said. Upon arrival, teams treated and transported five patients to hospitals, including one in critical condition and one with minor injuries.

He said the sixth injured person was detained by the police and taken to hospital with minor injuries. As of the afternoon, all of them were in stable condition.

“The school is safe and we are investigating at this time. Parents can pick up their children in the student parking lot. There is a reunion area there,” police spokesman Boyd said.

Tacoma Public Schools said in a statement that the school was quarantined at 1:38 p.m. and students were safely discharged from the school at 2:45 p.m. School and after-school activities are canceled on Friday.

The school will reopen on Monday with counselors to support students and staff.

“We are grateful for the quick and calm action of our staff and first responders,” the district said.
