Food safety teams of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) uncovered stale and spoiled food, cockroach infestation, mouse droppings, mold-infested vegetables, excessive reuse of cooking oil and various hygiene deficiencies during inspections at five restaurants in Kondapur, Gachibowli and Madinaguda areas of Hyderabad on July 4.

Officials found stale and spoiled cooked mandi, boiled eggs and chicken wings at Wah Mandi in Kondapur, which were immediately thrown away. Inspectors also observed that raw and cooked meats were stored together, while vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were not properly separated. Officials also noted that hot water sanitation was not monitored, the dishwashing area was inadequate, and the walls and ceilings in the vegetable cutting section were crumbling.

Inspection at Mandi King in Gachibowli revealed that raw and cooked non-vegetarian food was stored together without proper covering. Authorities found that the cooking oil had been continuously reused for four days, as confirmed by a food attendant, and ordered the oil to be disposed of immediately. The kitchen also had a greasy and dirty exhaust system, an inadequate dishwashing area with no hot water sanitation, rusted doors, and a heavy fly infestation. Inspectors noted that raw material handling, cutting and cooking took place in the same closed work area, resulting in wet and unhygienic floor conditions.

Boiled vegetables were stored uncovered on the floor near the washing area, while open garbage bins, greasy exhaust systems and dirty corners were observed in the kitchen. Food waste and stagnant water were found near sewers, and raw materials were stored in unlabeled containers. Inspectors also found that cooked cauliflower that showed visible mold growth was immediately thrown away, and crates used to store utensils were dirty.
