Suspected ganja smuggler from Bangkok caught in dramatic chase after escaping customs custody in Bengaluru

A suspected tick smuggler who escaped from the custody of airport customs officials was caught after a dramatic chase at the Devanahalli-Doddaballapura junction on Saturday.
According to police, the suspect had come from Bangkok and was being taken for medical examination by Airport Customs chief Vishal Chandal around 7 am. It was reported that during the passage, the suspect told the officer that he wanted to go to the toilet, but escaped from custody with an excuse.
After the customs officer alerted the Namma-112 emergency helpline, the Hoysala-181 patrol vehicle attached to Devanahalli Police Station was notified. Police teams reached the scene within 3 minutes.
The patrol team noticed the suspect from a distance and started to follow him. After approximately 2 kilometers of foot pursuit, the police managed to catch the person. The accused was later handed over to Devanahalli police.
Police said the suspect has been formally arrested as a case has already been registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau. More precautions were being taken.
