Sydney man, 64, faces court accused of pointing laser at police helicopter

A man has been charged after allegedly pointing a laser at a police helicopter patrolling Sydney overnight.
The Polair aircraft was on patrol in Western Sydney just after 7pm on Friday when it was struck by a high-power laser light directed at it, forcing the crew to take action to minimize the impact.
NSW Police said Polair, with the help of Fairfield City Police Area Command officers, tracked the laser to a home on Richard Road in Wakeley, where a 64-year-old man was arrested.
The 64-year-old man was taken to Cabramatta Police Station where he was charged with acting in a manner that threatened the safety of the aircraft/vehicle occupants and unauthorized possession or use of a prohibited weapon.
He was released on conditional bail before appearing at Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday, May 13.
