Australia: 8-Months-Pregnant Indian Woman Killed In BMW Crash In Sydney | World News

A tragic road accident in Sydney claimed the life of a 33-year-old pregnant Indian woman who was just weeks away from giving birth to her second child. Police said the victim, Samanvitha Dhareshwar, was out for a walk with her husband and three-year-old son when the incident occurred.
According to NDTV, the accident took place on George Street in Hornsby at around 8pm last Friday evening. According to police, the Kia Carnival had slowed down to allow Dhareshwar and his family to cross the footpath near the car park entrance. At that moment, a speeding BMW crashed into the back of the Kia. The force of the collision propelled the Kia forward and it hit Dhareshwar as he crossed the entrance.
Victim and Unborn Child Could Not Be Saved

Police said Dhareshwar suffered serious injuries from the collision. She was taken to Westmead Hospital but doctors were unable to save her or her unborn child. The woman was 8 months pregnant at the time of the accident.
It is not yet known whether his wife or child was injured in the accident.

Young Driver Arrested
The BMW was driven by 19-year-old Aaron Papazoğlu, who had a provisional (P plate) driver’s license. Police said both the BMW and Kia drivers were uninjured, NDTV reported.
Papazoğlu was later arrested at his home in Wahroonga. The following accusations were made against him:
- Dangerous driving leading to death
- Careless driving led to death
- causing loss of the fetus
Case May Continue Under Zoe’s Law
Authorities said the accused could be prosecuted under Zoe’s Law, which comes into force in New South Wales in 2022. The law allows for harsher penalties if an unborn child dies as a result of dangerous or negligent driving. If convicted, offenders face up to an additional three years in prison in addition to the original sentence.
The devastating accident shocked the Indian community in Sydney as police continue to investigate the incident.
