Spain Train Accident: At least 21 people lost their lives and more than 70 people were injured in the terrible incident that occurred as a result of the collision of two high-speed trains near the city of Cordoba in southern Spain on Sunday evening. The reasons for the derailment are not yet known.
Citing Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente, IANS reported that 30 of the injured were in serious condition and were hospitalized.

The tragic accident occurred at around 19.45 local time, when a train carrying 317 passengers crashed on the Malaga-Madrid route near Amaduz, approximately 20 km away from Cordoba.
According to IANS, the derailed train hit another high-speed train traveling on the adjacent track from Madrid to Huelva, causing the derailment of Huelva.
Spanish Prime Minister reacted
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his deep condolences about the tragedy on Monday.
“Today is a deeply painful night for our country due to the tragic railway accident in Adamuz,” he wrote in his article to X.
Additionally, according to the Xinhua news agency, the Spanish royal family also expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.
‘Really Strange’ Incident
According to Reuters, Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente described the crash as “really strange” while speaking to reporters at a press conference in Madrid.
Puente stated that the collision was “terrible” and that the last two carriages of the Malaga-Madrid train derailed and hit the first two carriages of the oncoming train, derailing them.

Photos and videos shared by passengers on social media show that many wagons were heavily damaged and some wagons derailed and overturned.
ANI reported that eyewitnesses recalled the impact feeling like an earthquake, while others reported smoke inside the trains. Many passengers were injured while breaking windows to escape.

Emergency services from the Andalusia region were dispatched to the scene, while local residents helped transport slightly injured passengers to a nearby sports center for first aid. Rescue efforts continued until Sunday night as authorities warned that the death toll could rise.
