Clashes reported during Punjab local body polls 2026
Punjab local body polls 2026 witnessed clashes and allegations of booth capture at various places during voting on Tuesday.
Congress candidate Jagdev Singh Jagga from Ward No. 4 in Raikot was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons by a group of people. The injured person was admitted to a private hospital in Ludhiana.
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring condemned the attack and criticized the state government for the law and order situation.
In Barnala, the husband of Deepinder Kaur, the BJP candidate from Ward No. 15, was allegedly attacked after she raised allegations of fake voting. He was injured and taken to the hospital, officials said.
Clashes also broke out between SAD and AAP supporters during the voting in Wards No. 18 and 19 at Gidderbaha in Muktsar district. SAD later accused AAP MLA Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon and others of booth taking, assault and intimidation. However, authorities denied the claims of taking over the stand.

Demand for re-voting increases in Mohali
Former deputy mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has demanded rejection of voting in Mohali, alleging that ballot paper secrecy was violated during the municipal corporation elections.
Bedi claimed that the ballot papers had the same serial numbers as the serial numbers in the footnotes and that it was possible to track voter preferences. He submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission and senior officials for a high-level investigation into the matter.
According to Bedi, the alleged problem was noticed while voting at a polling booth in Mohali’s Phase 3B2 area for Ward No. 10.
He argued that the process compromised the secrecy of voting and cited provisions under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as well as the Supreme Court’s observations on free and fair elections.
Bedi also warned that he would approach the court if no action was taken by the authorities.
