Max Verstappen seizes pole position while Formula 1 leader Oscar Piastri qualifies sixth; F1 results; Formula 1; schedule; tickets; map; track; Ferrari; McLaren; Lewis Hamilton; race results

McLaren engineers weren’t having a good day at the office on Saturday after both drivers retired just meters into the US Grand Prix sprint race.

During the sprint, Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg hit Oscar Piastri at the first corner, sending the Australian’s McLaren crashing into teammate Lando Norris.

The safety car was deployed with debris strewn across the track.

“Someone destroyed me, I’m out,” said Norris, who tried to continue but stopped on the track.

McLaren boss Zak Brown said: “This was very bad. None of our drivers are to blame for this.” Sky Sports television.

Piastri, who was 22 points ahead of his teammate in the standings, returned to the pit area but withdrew from the race due to a broken suspension.

The Australian driver continued to struggle in qualifying and will sit sixth in the standings while his teammate starts second. Pole position belonged to Red Bull champion Max Verstappen, who had a spectacular lap at the Circuit of the Americas.
