BJP Accommodates Leaders Who Crossed Over To Party From Congress In Corporations
– What happened? Halfway through the tenure of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, chief minister Mohan Yadav has initiated the process of making political appointments to various boards, corporators and commissions.
However, two of these political appointments carry significance considering their past association with Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
One of them is former Lok Sabha member KP Yadav, who has been appointed chairman of the state civil supply company, which is considered an important position.
Mr. Yadav came into limelight after inflicting a shocking defeat on Mr. Scindia in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Guna in the state.
The former MP, who was a trusted lieutenant of Mr Scindia when he was in the Congress, switched from the grand old party to the BJP ahead of the 2019 LS elections.
In the 2019 LS polls, he contested from the BJP side against Mr. Scindia and then won the Congress seat from the BJP seat, handing the BJP its first poll loss in his political career.
Mr Scindia joined the BJP in 2020 following disagreements with former chief minister Kamal Nath and his followers in the then Congress Legislature Party, which led to the fall of the Kamal Nath government.
The BJP had later sent Mr Scindia to the Rajya Sabha in 2020.
However, the union minister retained the Guna LS seat, considered a Scindia family stronghold, as the BJP candidate in the 2024 LS elections after the BJP was denied a party ticket to Mr. Yadav.
This made Mr. Yadav sulk.
Mr. Yadav has now been appointed as the chairman of the state civil supply company.
Interestingly, state food and civil supplies minister Govind Singh Rajput is seen as a staunch supporter of Mr. Scindia.
He had joined the BJP in 2020 along with Mr. Scindia.
Another political appointment that has been much discussed in political circles is that of Ram Nivas Rawat, former working president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress, who joined the BJP just two weeks before the 2024 LS elections.
He is considered a political heavyweight in the Gwalior-Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh.
After resigning from the State Assembly and joining the BJP, he became the forest minister in the Mohan Yadav government.
However, he had lost the by-election in the Vijaypur Assembly constituency in the state’s Sheopur district a year ago and subsequently resigned from the state ministry.
Mr. Rawat has now been appointed as the chairman of the state forest development corporation.
