Rahul Bose with Kamal Haasan in Vishwaroopam
Rahul Bose (popularly known for Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Chameli, Mr & Mrs Iyer) was once considered the ‘superstar of offbeat cinema’ and had always impressed critics with his performances even in commercial potboilers like Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam and Dil Dhadkne Do. However, for the last few months, Rahul has been facing fraud charges in Himachal Pradesh for allegedly obtaining a Himachal domicile certificate. What is the controversy? Why is Rahul facing fraud charges?
Rahul Bose is not just an actor but also…
Actor and former Rugby player Rahul is also the national president of the Indian Rugby Federation. According to reports, Rahul allegedly committed fraud in Himachal Pradesh, where he obtained a Himachal domicile certificate to pursue his role as the national president of the Indian Rugby Federation. The case has now reached the Himachal Pradesh High Court with a petition seeking a detailed investigation into the matter.
What is Himachal residence certificate?
In 2023, Rahul Bose allegedly assured the royal family in Shimla that efforts would be made to establish and officially recognize a state-level rugby federation in Himachal Pradesh. But it never came. Complainant Divya Kumari, a member of the Jubbal royal family, said local rugby enthusiasts formed an association within two years on Bose’s assurance of recognition by the national federation. Divya also added that the original association was deactivated and a new rugby association was formed from scratch. This raised questions about transparency and fair play.
Why is Rahul Bose’s residence questionable?
Divya Kumari accused Rahul of misusing the goodwill of the royal family to expand his position in the national rugby federation. He accused Bose of ‘fraudulently obtaining’ the Himachal Pradesh domicile certificate, which gave him two votes in that state in the federation’s recent leadership election and allegedly helped him secure his position as Rugby India president.
The complainant also raises doubts about Bose’s legal ability to possess domicile certificate from Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh, Aadhaar card and Maharashtra passport. Born in Kolkata and living in Mumbai for his film career, his possession of a Himachal domicile certificate has raised serious doubts about the authenticity of this document.
