US President Donald Trump announced that no American government officials will attend the G20 summit in South Africa, citing the alleged mistreatment of white farmers in South Africa. Trump had already said he would not attend the G20 summit in South Africa on November 22-23, with Vice President J.D. Vance scheduled to attend instead, according to the AP. But now Vance won’t be able to attend either.

Trump says US official will boycott G20 summit in South Africa

Trump made the announcement on social media. “It is an absolute disgrace that the G20 is being held in South Africa. Africans who are descendants of Dutch, French and German settlers are being murdered and their lands and farms are being illegally seized. As long as these Human Rights abuses continue, no US Government Official will be able to attend. I look forward to hosting the 2026 G20 in Miami, Florida!” he wrote on social media.

The Trump administration has harshly criticized the South African government, claiming it tolerates discrimination and violence against white farmers. In response, the administration prioritized white South Africans in reducing the refugee intake to 7,500. But South African officials reject these claims, stating that even 30 years after apartheid ended, white citizens still have higher standards of living than most Black South Africans. President Cyril Ramaphosa told Trump that reports of systematic persecution of white farmers were “completely false”.
