President Donald Trump on Monday threatened countries with increasing import duties if they choose to “play games” after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down global tariffs last week. “Any country that wants to ‘play games’ with this ridiculous Supreme Court decision, especially those that have been ‘ripping off’ the United States for years, even decades, will face a much higher and worse tariff than the one they recently agreed to,” Trump wrote on social media. The high court’s decision dealt a harsh blow to Trump’s economic agenda; A key feature of this agenda was tariffs and the ability to impose them quickly. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said for now he expects partners to “stick to” their tariff agreements with Washington.
