Russia’s ambassador to the UK has become the latest diplomat to issue a dramatic warning against the US supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. Andrei Kelin said that the latest military aid, which is still being discussed, “will not change the situation on the battlefield.” He added the ominous seven-word warning: “We will have to react very seriously.”
Kelin said: “But we will have to react very seriously to this escalation and the involvement of the US military in these attacks.” This came after Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov warned that delivering Tomahawks to Kiev would be an “extremely dangerous move”. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also issued a direct warning to Donald Trump, urging him to consider the consequences of sending missiles to Ukraine.
He said: “The delivery of these missiles could end badly for everyone. First of all, for Trump himself.”
Mr. Trump also announced that he and Putin would meet in Hungary “to see if we can end this ‘dishonorable’ war between Russia and Ukraine.”
“At the end of the call, we agreed to have a meeting with our Senior Advisors next week,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“The first meetings of the United States will be chaired by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with others to be determined.
“A meeting place will be determined. President Putin and I will meet later at an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, and see if we can bring this ‘evil’ war between Russia and Ukraine to an end.”
Mr Trump is preparing for a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky tomorrow amid talk that Kiev could acquire Tomahawk cruise missiles that would allow it to attack Russia more deeply.
He concluded: “President Zelenskyy and I will meet tomorrow in the Oval Office and there we will discuss my meeting with President Putin and much more. I believe that great progress was made in today’s phone call.”
Mr. Trump and Mr. Zelensky had a phone call earlier this week to discuss the missiles.
The Ukrainian president called it “very productive” and praised his American counterpart for being “well informed about everything that is going on.”
