Telangana Activists Seek Statutory Status, Welfare Package

Telangana state activists on Friday demanded legal status for the Telangana Agitators’ Recognition Committee and demanded a comprehensive welfare package, including house areas of 250 square meters and monthly pension for eligible families.

They also pushed for education and reservation in government jobs for their children, special benefits for women activists, free healthcare through health cards and free travel in TSRTC buses.

The demands were made at a consultative meeting held by the committee at Amaraveerula Smaraka Deepam near the Secretariat and attended by over 1,200 activists from erstwhile Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda districts. Written submissions were submitted to the panel.

Activists have urged the committee to examine welfare measures for state agitators in Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh and recommend similar or stronger benefits for Telangana as well. They also sought to hold district-level consultations to enable older activists in remote areas to present their views.

Activists from Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda played a pivotal role in the statehood movement, with widespread protests and mobilization attracting national attention, committee members said.

Chairman K. Keshava Rao assured that the panel will examine the welfare models of other states and include appropriate recommendations in its report. The committee said that the report of the Information and Public Relations Department, prepared with the support of digital documents, will be submitted to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for discussion in the Cabinet and final decision.
