The UK high street set for £1.6m transformation with ‘bold new design’ | UK | News

A transformation of £ 1.65 million was arranged to the high street of the city of England. Dunfermline’s Hight Street will begin next month and will take between 12 and 15 months.
Since 1990, when the cooperative store is closed, the City Square will receive a “brave new design olan that will turn the area into two connected areas. One will be an activity area for markets, performances and meetings, and the other will be an open grass for “informal recreation”. “We are excited to see that this project is progressing with the appointment of Newlay as the contractor of Newlay.
The plans have been discussed for years and the design was approved in December 2021. The price of this project was initially set to £ 800,000, since then it has increased more than twice.
Finansman shared Fife Council’s capital program, the Scottish government’s ground -based investment fund and the UK.
“This project points to an important milestone in converting the long -term site into a lively, accessible public space for the community. The site has remained empty and has been served as a green area for the last twenty years.
“2018 Dunfermline Charrette and after comprehensive community feedback, it was decided to redesign the area – not for work, not for people.”
The derelict cooperative store was purchased by developer Alfred Stewart in 1999, but after he did not do anything with the land, the Council bought it in 2006 for a compulsory purchasing order for £ 3 million and destroyed the property.
Altany Craik, a spokesman for finance, economy and strategic planning, said, “FIFI invests in communities;
“We put the foundations of long -term prosperity through the fife by supporting renewal, developing public spaces and creating employment.
“It is a fundamental example of how we use the new status of the city to develop Dunfermline’s City Square, unlock opportunities and provide real benefits for the local people.”
