Trump Interior Secretary Doug Burgum says America’s 250th will be “nonpartisan”
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that the nation’s 250th birthday was a “non-partisan event” — a day after President Trump publicly called for the concert lineup to be replaced by a “Make America Great Again” rally.
Host Dana Bash backed down. “Trump called it the ‘Make America Great Again rally,'” he said. “That’s the name of your political organization.”
“Yes, it is,” Burgum replied. “But I think it’s something we can all definitely understand.”
In a post on Saturday Truth Social, Trump suggested canceling the Freedom 250 concert series on the National Mall after a group of artists pulled out.
“We should have a giant 250-person MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY instead of overpriced singers who no one wants to hear, whose music is boring but still do nothing but complain.” wrote.
Among the names withdrawn were: Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, the Commodores, Morris Day, Young MC and Milli Vanilli. McBride wrote He wrote on Instagram that he was “offered the opportunity to perform at a non-partisan event, but it turned out to be misleading.”
