The meme war between various Iranian embassies and Donald Trump broke out in full force this week following the president’s embarrassing gaffe involving an AI-generated image of himself bearing a striking resemblance to Jesus.
A recent post from the Iranian Embassy in Tajikistan about The brutally graphic AI-generated video shows Trump bleeding from his head before falling into a burning pit.
The clip, released Tuesday afternoon, had reached 14 million views by Wednesday.
It represents an increasingly bizarre development online amid the war in Iran, as memes and AI images have come to dominate online conversation surrounding the conflict.
Official Iranian accounts constantly go viral with posts mocking Trump and the United States. While AI is used to power real weapons on the battlefield, it is also used as a weapon online.
“We live in strange times, man,” one person replied.
“This isn’t what I thought they meant when they said AI would change the way we fight wars,” said another.
The use of online memes in wartime has gained popularity recently; It first gained widespread attention during the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Earlier this week, the Iranian Embassy in Thailand shared an image designed to mimic a Trump campaign poster. Instead of the year 2028, it says “Trump $20.28 per gallon” and “Are you ready, guys?” It included the title.
Fuel prices across the U.S. continue to climb amid ongoing conflict, having risen more than 30 percent since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran in February.
This follows a previous viral moment in which the account shared, “Trump’s new move against our country is so funny we don’t even have a meme for it” after the president announced plans to blockade the Strait of Hormuz.
While Trump ultimately deleted the original AI-generated image of Jesus following widespread backlash, Iran has released a series of viral and largely well-received posts in recent weeks.
President Trump’s use of memes has unfortunately begun to arouse much more public suspicion than entertainment, and regardless of whether he uses them as a distraction or not, the strategy no longer seems to be working in his favor.
