Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president and leader of the largest party, C. Joseph Vijay, will be sworn in as the Prime Minister on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai at 10 am. All nine ministers are expected to take oath along with Mr. Vijay.
Mr. Vijay had earlier urged Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan in Chennai to stake his claim to form a government in Tamil Nadu and end the frustrating political uncertainty prevailing in the state. Mr. Vijay has the support of 120 elected MLAs in the 234-member Assembly.
This is Mr. Vijay’s fourth meeting with the Governor in four days. Earlier in the day, Mr. Vijay met the Governor after VCK and IUML gave unconditional support to TVK. Mr. Vijay was accompanied by leaders from Congress, VCK, CPI (M), CPI and IUML during his meeting with the Governor.

Letters written with the same wording, similar to the letters sent by the Left parties to Governor Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol. Thirumavalavan and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national president KM Kader Mohideen said that their respective parties have given unconditional support to TVK under the leadership of party president C. Joseph Vijay to form the government. Both parties have two elected MLAs each. They contested as part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.
With the support of VCK and IUML, TVK now has the support of 120 elected MLAs (as Mr. Vijay is contesting on two seats), two more than the 118 majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. The TVK, which won 108 seats, had already received the support of five elected MLAs of the Congress and two each from the CPI and CPI(M).
