Two women in their 20s die while diving in Scottish loch
Two women in their 20s died while diving in a lake in Argyll and Bute.
Emergency services were called at around 15.30 on Sunday after reports that divers were in distress at Loch Fyne.
While a 26-year-old woman was determined to have died at the scene, the body of a 24-year-old woman was found after a rescue operation involving the Coast Guard and lifeguard teams.
A Police Scotland spokesman said they had received “reports of concern regarding two female divers”.
The spokesman said: “Emergency services attended and a 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Further searches of the water were carried out and the body of a 24-year-old woman was located.
“The deaths are being treated as unexplained and an autopsy will be performed in due course.”
Elsewhere, three people died in distress at sea on Sunday.
Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to Fistral Beach in Newquay at around 9.45pm on Sunday and two men were pulled from the water.
A man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s were pronounced dead at the scene, and their families have been notified, police said.
Officers from Sussex Police were also called to a beach area near Pound Road in West Wittering at around 2.30pm to reports of two men experiencing difficulties in the water.
Police added that the men were pulled from the sea and treated in emergency services.
It was determined that one of the men died at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital.
Police said the two men are not thought to have known each other.
The temperature in West Wittering rose above 26.5 degrees in the afternoon. The maximum temperature in Newquay was recorded by the Met Office as 20.2C.
