AI to return 5 leased B777-200 LR planes to Delta Air Lines by March 2026

Mumbai, September 12 (PTI) Air India, according to sources, will return the Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft to the US-based Delta Air Lines.

Resources told PTI, two of these five aircraft were left out of service for maintenance works.

Since these large -bodied aircraft are gradually returned, the airline will make changes to its flights to North America.

“Five of our Boeing 777-200LRs are returned to the lessons at the end of the rental term of the aircraft.

Sources, five Boeing 777-200 LR (long-range) planes were rented from delta air lines and some of these aircraft before the technical problems, he said.

According to sources, Air India had previously wanted to extend the rental and was also interested in acquiring these renewed aircraft, but Delta decided to sell the plane to another party.

Currently, Air India belonging to the TATA group has 187 aircraft fleet-127 narrow body and 60 wide body aircraft. 22 Boeing 777-19 B777-300 ERS (Expanded December) and 3 B777-200 LRS, 32 Boeing 787S-26 B787-8 and 6 B787-9 and 6 A350.

In the narrow body fleet, there are A319s, A320 CEOs and Neo’s, A321 CEOs and Neo’s.

Global supply chain problems affect airplane deliveries and prefers short -term measures such as buying aircraft to hire airline to make more flights between increasing air traffic demand.

Air India will have long distances in the near term and ultra long -distance flight network with a fewer large -bodied plane in its fleet.

After the release of two of these five aircraft, the sources moved the Air India, Delhi-Sfo flight in a B777-300er, which was previously operated by Delta Air leased B777-200LR.

Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said to the PTI in June this year: “I think (I think (supply chain) is becoming increasingly better. There are still restrictions in a series of restrictions … It becomes increasingly better for years, but I still believe until 2029 or 2030.”
