United Airlines jet hits light pole at Newark Airport | US | News

Authorities are investigating the incident in which a passenger plane crashed into a power pole while landing.

The incident involving United Airlines Flight 169 occurred around 2 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the Boeing 767 arrived in the United States from Venice, Italy.

United Airlines said the plane “contacted a utility pole” during its final approach to Newark.

“The aircraft landed safely, proceeded normally towards the gate and no passengers or crew were injured.”

United confirmed that its maintenance team was assessing the damage to the plane.

The crew was removed from service while the airline conducted a “rigorous” flight safety investigation.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced that it launched an investigation into the incident in a statement published on X.

An investigator from the board is expected to arrive in Newark on Monday; The NTSB ordered United Airlines to turn over the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to assist in the investigation.

The preliminary report is expected to be published within 30 days.
