Spain train crash LIVE: Driver killed and 15 injured in second horror collision in days | World | News

At least 42 people were killed and dozens injured when two high-speed trains collided in southern Spain on Sunday evening; this was one of Europe’s deadliest rail disasters in 80 years.
According to the Spanish interior ministry, the accident occurred at 19.45 local time near the town of Adamuz, where approximately 5,000 people live in the province of Córdoba.
The rear section of a train from Malaga to Madrid, operated by the private high-speed transport company Iryo, derailed and crossed onto neighboring tracks, where it crashed into the Renfe service from Madrid to Huelva. Renfe is Spain’s state-owned railway operator.
State railway infrastructure director Adif said that the Iryo train first derailed and then collided with the second train, which caused the train to go off the rails and fall onto the railway embankment.
