The US government, celebrating 250 years of independence from the monarchy, will this summer issue passports featuring a large photo of its top leader’s face.
Donald Trump’s photograph will appear on the inside cover of the limited edition documents announced to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States, surrounded by the text of the Declaration of Independence and the US flag with a gold signature. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott described the US passport as “the most secure document in the world” in a statement, stating that the passports will include “personalized artwork and enhanced images” and retain existing security features.
The passports are part of the administration’s “America250” celebrations, which also include the Grand Prix race on the National Mall and a UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House.
The State Department said it would issue a limited number of passports for the “historic event” but did not confirm how many there would be.
The passport is the latest in Trump’s effort to show his face on US institutions and documents.
