Texas approves proposal for constitutional amendment barring noncitizen voting

Texans overwhelmingly approved a proposed amendment to the Lone Star State’s constitution that would ban non-U.S. citizens from voting in the state.

Unofficial results show the proposal passed solidly with just under 72% of the vote.

SJR37The ballot measure associated with the ballot proposal states that the “persons who are not citizens of the United States” language would be added to the constitution’s list of classes of persons not permitted to vote in Texas.
