Vance, Rubio would be unbeatable in 2028 race: Trump

US President Donald Trump said in a podcast interview that Vice President J.D. Vance and US Secretary of State Rubio teaming up for the 2028 presidential race would be unbeatable.

Both men are considered candidates for the 2028 Republican nomination, and Rubio’s latest turn at the White House podium was met with praise from Republicans and even some Democrats, who noted his smooth performance, which included 1990s hip-hop references and quips that defined Iran’s negotiating position.

“I think it’s going to be very difficult to beat JD and Marco as a team,” Trump told Miranda Devine in a podcast released Wednesday.

“It’s a very interesting, human thing, the human equation. That’s why I watch them together, they get along so well,” he added.

Although both Vance and Rubio downplayed their 2028 targets, Trump continued to fuel the succession debate.

Vance and Rubio took turns taking the stage at White House briefings to defend the Trump administration against a wide range of questions, including the increasingly unpopular Iran war.

No one has officially entered the race for the November 2028 elections, but maneuvers have begun.

Democratic candidates are already vying for the 2028 presidential race, signaling an open race without a clear party standard bearer in the fight to replace Republican President Donald Trump.
