Vijay Takes Large Share of Dravidian Parties’ Votes

Chennai: DMK stood second with 57 seats compared to AIADMK, which was leading in 51 constituencies, which was 15 seats less compared to the 2021 Assembly elections. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is leading with 108 seats, 10 short of the majority mark.

DMK’s vote share, which was 37.7 percent in the 2021 Assembly elections, dropped to 23.99 percent, while AIADMK’s vote share, which got 33.29 percent in the previous Assembly elections, dropped to 21.87 percent as of 3 pm on Monday. The BJP, which got around 18 per cent votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has now received only 3.09 per cent votes and the Congress vote share was slightly higher at 3.64 per cent.

Even if the Congress decides to support TVK in forming a government, the national party is leading with only 4 seats despite contesting in 28 constituencies in the DMK alliance. DMK ally IUML is ahead with two seats, while other ally CPI is ahead with two seats. CPI-M, which held various party meetings to take 5 seats from DMK, is leading with one seat. DMDK, whose entry of the DMK front in the seat-sharing talks has caused confusion, is leading by only one seat despite contesting in ten constituencies.
