Want a refill? McDonald’s is changing how you get soda at restaurants

Many have begun to notice a difference in their area McDonald’s restaurant. You may soon start to notice this, too.

The fast food giant announced that it will phase out self-serve soda fountains in dining rooms across the country by 2023, with the option expected to be completely eliminated by 2032. Customers will need to ask for drinks at the counter again.

“The goal of this change is to create a consistent experience for both customers and crew across all ordering locations, whether McDelivery, app, kiosk, drive-thru or restaurant,” the company told USA TODAY in a 2023 statement. he said.

In 2023, Brad Davis, who owns multiple McDonald’s in Springfield, Illinois, said one of his restaurants was selected as part of a new “crew refill” system in which workers refill customer drinks for them, according to the State Journal-Register. He told the outlet that the experience has been an adjustment for customers and staff, but complaints have been minimal.

New refreshments and crafted sodas appear on McDonald’s menu

McDonald’s is adding six new specialty drinks to its menus starting May 6.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s added: new series of six special drinksIts menu includes caffeinated refreshments and dirty sodas.

The six new drinks include three lemonade-based refreshers and three dirty sodas. See the entire series:

  • Strawberry Watermelon Refresher: Lemonade base consisting of a mixture of strawberry and watermelon flavors and freeze-dried strawberries.

  • Mango Pineapple Refresher: Lemonade base blending tropical mango and pineapple flavors with strawberry popping boba.

  • Blackberry Passion Fruit Refresher: Lemonade base consisting of a mixture of blackberry and passion fruit flavors and freeze-dried dragon fruit.

  • Sprite Berry Explosion: Sprite is infused with blue raspberry syrup and topped with cold foam.

  • Orange Dream: Hi‑C Orange Lavaburst mixed with vanilla flavor and topped with cold foam.

  • Dirty Dr Pepper: Dr Pepper mixed with vanilla flavoring and topped with cold foam.

“Our fans are obsessed with beverages; to them, beverages are more than just drinks. And soon our beverages will not just be a reason, but the reason why you come to McDonald’s,” Alyssa Buetikofer, chief marketing and customer experience officer for McDonald’s USA, said in a statement.

The new drinks will be available at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide starting May 6.

Guillaume Huin, senior marketing director for McDonald’s USA, said: Publish on X Restaurants are “beginning to train and prepare” before the drinks officially appear on menus.
