We’ll Bring Back Tatas To WB

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday promised to bring back the Tata Group to drive industry and investments in the state under the BJP rule; Nearly 18 years after the corporate giant shifted its Nano small car project from Singur in the Hooghly to Gujarat after facing a fierce anti-land acquisition drive by the opposition Trinamul Congress during the Communist regime.

Interestingly, Mr. Adhikari had played a key role in the movement led by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee while he was in his party. “We will bring the Tatas back here. However, the land in Singur is no longer in the hands of the state government. The previous government had handed over the ownership of the lands to the farmers. However, they are still unable to produce paddy, potato or poppy. An attempt had also been made earlier for unviable fishing. The land pattern has changed as the Tatas’ materials like sticks and cement have mixed into the soil there. I have done some preliminary work. But please do not be in such a hurry,” the CM said.

“We want to come here with flowers and greet the CM and check if they want to click photos or if they really want to do something. My primary duty is to investigate whether they are good business players as in the past, whether they have committed any bank fraud or land scams or whether they are facing money laundering investigation.”

Secondly, if they own any land here just to establish a unit to protect their own territory or to renew the relationship. Thirdly, if they are just coming here for a courtesy meeting or have any special plans for ‘Destination Bengal’ for which I will hand over the land to them immediately.”

Mr. Adhikari also announced that state government sponsorship this time will be provided only to Durga Puja organizers who are truly in need. He also informed that the roads in the city and state cannot be occupied by illegal vendors and warned for evacuation.
