Bengaluru police inspector assaults man in Hassan over financial deal

A police inspector and his two friends allegedly attacked a man at Uduvare near Goruru in Hassan taluk on the evening of January 6.

The treatment of Shashidhar, a resident of Karlekoplu of Kattaya district of Hasan taluk, who was seriously injured in the incident, continues at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences.

Goruru police lodged a complaint based on Mr. Shashidhar’s statement. He alleged that Shiva Kumar, a police inspector in Shivamogga, and his two friends stopped him at Uduvare and hit him with an iron rod. He was seriously injured in his leg and head. The locals took him to the hospital.

Mr Shashidhar said he had known Kumar since he worked at Hassan. Over the last seven to eight years, both have made financial agreements. The inspector had given him ₹ 50 lakh to buy a property in his (Shashidhar’s) name and asked him to become benami. However, recently, differences between them on financial matters had increased.

When Hindu When Hassan contacted Police Inspector Shubhanwita, the officer said that the police had registered a case against Kumar. “We are investigating the incident and are actively working to capture the escaped defendants,” he said.
