Woman, Daughter Found Dead In Cashew Orchard

Eluru: A woman and her daughter were found dead under suspicious circumstances in a cashew garden in Ungaturu mandal in Nallamadu village of the district on Monday. While the police suspected that unidentified people may have been involved in these deaths, they launched an investigation into the incident.

Eluru DSP D Sravan Kumar said, “The bodies of the woman and her daughter were found in a cashew field near Nallamadu village. Both of them suffered serious head injuries, which are suspected to have been caused by a sharp object.” he said. The bodies were found decomposed in different parts of the orchard by farmers who informed the police.

According to police, the victims hailed from Kothapeta village Anathapalli in East Godavari district. The police found a bag and identified the woman as Vadde Venkatalakshmi and her daughter as Varalakshmi, based on the Aadhaar card found.

Varalakshmi, who is differently abled, was said to be working as a sweeper in the Eluru Municipal Corporation office. Family members stated that on Friday, both mother and daughter went to their village to attend a special event. However, since their whereabouts were unknown, family members and relatives felt uneasy. The incident came to light when the bodies of both women were found in a cashew garden near Nallamadu. Due to the partially decomposed state of the bodies, authorities suspect that several days had passed since their deaths.

DSP also stated that his daughter spoke to her brother on the phone at around 20:00 on May 29, and then her mobile phone could not be reached.

The bodies were sent to Tadepalligudem Government Hospital for autopsy. Police suspect that unknown persons may have committed the crime, but the reason is not yet known.
