Woman died after attempting to save dog from drowning in sea | UK | News

A woman died and a man remained in critical condition as a result of the couple trying to save their dog from the sea and got into a difficult situation.
Emergency services were called to Thornton-Cleveleys after two people were rescued from the water by HM Coastguard on Saturday evening.
Lancashire Constabulary said officers were called by the ambulance service shortly after 8.31pm on May 30 and attended the scene near Fleetwood Beach Cafe.
Police believe the man and woman, both in their 60s, went into the water after their dogs became stuck.
A spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said: “Shortly after 8.31pm yesterday evening, the ambulance service contacted us to say they were treating two people who were rescued from the sea by HM Coastguard at Thornton Cleveleys.
“Our police arrived at the scene near Fleetwood Beach Cafe. Meanwhile, we understand that a man and a woman were in a difficult situation after entering the water to save their stranded dog.”
Both injured people were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
Police confirmed that the woman sadly died after being taken to hospital.
The spokesman added: “The woman, aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead in hospital. Investigations are ongoing to identify her next of kin.”
The man remains in hospital in critical condition.
Police also confirmed the dog was safely retrieved from the sea.
“The dog was rescued safe and well,” the spokesman said.
Lancashire Constabulary said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and that a file would be prepared for the coroner.
