Woman dies trying to rescue dog from sea

A woman who tried to save her pet dog from the sea lost her life.
Lancashire Police said he and a man got into trouble after going into the water at Thornton Cleveleys “to save their trapped dog”.
The coastguard rescued the couple just after 8.30pm on Saturday, but the woman, in her 60s, later died in hospital.
Police said the man, also in his 60s, was in a critical condition in hospital after the incident near the Fleetwood Beach Cafe. The dog was said to be “safe and well.”
A police spokesman said the couple “were treated at the scene but unfortunately the woman, aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead in hospital.”
They added: “Investigations to identify next of kin are ongoing.”
The spokesperson also said his pet dog was “safe and well.”
Lancashire Police also said there were “no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.”
Last week, there were at least 15 water-related deaths following extremely hot weather.
