Police arrested two bus drivers for gang-raping a woman inside a private sleeper bus in Rani Bagh. It was stated that the defendants were Umesh Kumar (40) and Ramender (45). Police confirmed on Thursday that an FIR had been lodged and the vehicle seized.

The attack occurred late May 11, according to police. The woman met with the defendant as part of a financial agreement to provide sexual services. But he then refused further confrontation and allegedly asked the men to stop. The woman stated in her complaint that the defendant attacked her despite her refusal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (External) Vikram Singh said, “An investigation revealed that the woman had made some kind of monetary deal with the accused. They boarded the bus together at Rani Bagh and took them to Nangloi.”

The men did not pay the promised amount and then decided not to deal with them anymore. “Even though she withdrew her consent, she refused and they gang-raped her,” the official added.

According to police, the woman used a phone belonging to one of the accused to make a PCR call. The FIR was registered after the victim’s medical examination and her statement was recorded before a counsellor, police said. “Both the accused were nabbed a few hours after the incident was reported. One was at the scene while the other was nabbed a few hours later from the same area,” the officer said.

Police seized the sleeper bus, which usually plies daily from Delhi to Bihar. “The defendant had planned to pick up passengers that night. Instead, he chose to meet the woman and attacked her,” police said.
