A woman died after a crocodile attack severed her arm, despite her boyfriend’s frantic efforts to save her. Brittany Clark, 31, was hiking with a friend and her partner in Florida before deciding to take a refreshing dip in the picturesque Econlockhatchee River on Sunday, June 28.
That’s when Brittany was ambushed by the predator and her brave boyfriend was desperately trying to fight off the beast. They were kneeling in 10-foot-deep water when the 13-foot alligator suddenly attacked around 1:30 p.m. and bit the arms of Grant Eller, a lieutenant with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Eller said Brittany’s boyfriend was desperately trying to free his arms from the alligator’s jaws when he called 911 for help.

The resulting eerie sound NBC News captures screams and desperate cries for help during the harrowing ordeal.
“Someone got bitten by an alligator. Bad. Real bad,” the man is heard saying. “Please hurry up.”
“One is hanging by a thread and the other is off,” Brittany’s boyfriend can be heard saying.
When he called the officer, his friend said: “Okay, both his arms are covered, both arms are actually covered.”
The attendant said in response: “Are his arms still attached to him?”
His friend replied: “One of them seems very attached.” [by a] thread and the other was closed.”
A medical examiner’s report states: “While they were swimming, a crocodile grabbed him [Brittany] He grabbed his arm and started his ‘death roll’.
Brittany’s boyfriend then “caught the alligator, who tried to free him when he took them both underwater.”
The man managed to free one of Brittany’s arms “for a moment” before grabbing the other.
Chad Weber of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that Brittany was taken to a nearby hospital after the attack but died en route.
Brittany’s brother told Fox’s Orlando affiliate that his sister had a passion for the outdoors and adventure. He recalled that the couple often spent time together when they were young, water skiing and dirt biking.
“He was an amazing person. He was nice and helpful to anyone who needed any help,” he added. Following the attack, wildlife officials captured and euthanized two alligators, a 13ft alligator found near where Brittany was attacked, and a 12.5ft alligator found about half a mile away.
