World Cup 2026: England’s Jordan Henderson injures wrist in celebrations

England midfielder Jordan Henderson suffered a “really bad” ankle injury while celebrating his team’s dramatic last-16 win against Mexico, manager Thomas Tuchel said.
Henderson landed awkwardly and was seen leaving the field on a stretcher after falling from advertising hoardings at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium following England’s 3-2 win.
The 36-year-old Brentford midfielder’s World Cup appearance was limited to six minutes following England’s Group L win over Panama.
“Jordan [Henderson] He just fell and injured his ankle. It looks really bad,” England manager Thomas Tuchel said on BBC One after his side’s win on Monday.
“It’s a pretty serious injury, and not having Jordan with us right now doesn’t fit into tonight. The doctor told me he’s in the hospital.”
Henderson is accompanied by a member of England’s support staff and will not return with the team on Monday.
England’s next match is against Norway in the quarter-finals in Miami on Saturday at 22:00 BST. You can follow the match on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sport website and app.
Henderson is likely to join Reece James on the sidelines, who suffered a hamstring injury in England’s opening game.
Jarell Quansah, who received a red card during England’s win against Mexico, will not be able to play.
