110 students fall ill after lunch at private Icndore school; expired food items found in kitchen

Around 110 children at a private school in Indore fell ill after eating food, leading the administration to launch an investigation into the matter and seal the kitchen on Monday, June 22, 2026, officials said.

The district administration said it sealed the kitchen of the private school after it detected expired food items and other irregularities during its investigation into the suspected food poisoning incident two days ago.

Following a complaint from parents, the management conducted an inspection at the Jhalaria campus of Shishukunj International School on Bypass Road. Authorities stated that a total of 23 samples from various foodstuffs and ready meals used in the school kitchen were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing. They stated that 10 packages of expired spices and 2 Namkin were found in the kitchen during the examination. They stated that while an investigation was launched due to various irregularities, the school kitchen was sealed until further notice.

I’m talking PTISub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Deepak Chauhan said that children from Class 1 to Class 5 had regular lunch on Saturday, June 20, and more than 100 of them complained of abdominal pain and vomiting towards evening.

“On Saturday evening, around 110 children at school complained of abdominal pain and vomiting. These symptoms continued in many children the next day.” Chauhan said that interviews with parents revealed that many children were taken to doctors, while some parents who were also doctors treated their children at home.

“So far, children have mostly reported symptoms of vomiting and stomach pain. No children have been hospitalized at this time,” the officer said.

The school’s deputy principal, Kamayani Chauhan, said a lunch consisting of rajma, vegetables, rice, roti and ice cream was served to the children on Saturday.

“More than 3,200 people eat at our school every day. We ensure that the meals at the institution are of the highest quality.” The vice principal said that the school is also investigating the case of children falling ill.
