Brits warned as tourists targeted by scammers in popular holiday city | World | News

British tourists in Amsterdam were said to be careful against scammers masked as beggars in need of help or cash. The last foreign visitors to the Dutch capital reported an increase that claims to need in the number of people approaching them on the street. A holidaymaker claimed that he was a Ukrainian and said he had lost his boyfriend and needed help to return to the Centraal station.
They told Reddit that his satisfaction felt “strange rehearsals”, and gradually slowly “less logical”, including the claim that his phone did not work when he looks completely functional. “We completely cut him, then we saw that he went to other tourists and started doing the same thing.” They said. “We warned these tourists what he was doing, and then his ‘boyfriend’ appeared almost and started it.”
Other social Meida users said that the deception is common for the most popular city break points, and that small criminals benefit from naive and well -intentioned tourists, others shared similar stories of their trips to the Netherlands.
“Not even a scam,” someone wrote. “One of what they connect you to something and then just wants money or something. Basically, ‘I will help you find your hotel’ and then [intimidating] You will pay for services.
“Unfortunately, it is difficult to trust everything people say at the center of Amsterdam. It makes you not relying on situations where help can really be needed.”
Amsterdam, despite its status among the most visited cities in Europe, had a crowded history.
It is known for its famous Red Light region, a street network with prostitution and gender -oriented businesses in which the authorities have taken steps towards break in recent months.
The proposals supported by the mayor of the city during the summer proposed to get rid of the region that has been functioning in the 14th century and instead to build a safer “mega brothel” in the suburbs.
Sex work is legal in the Netherlands, but it is not allowed in a hotel or on the street or without permission.
