CJI BR Gavai cautions against misinterpretation of judges’ oral remarks on social media

During a hearing in court, CJI spoke one day after a lawyer, a day after a lawyer he appealed to the restoration of a Vishnu idol in Khajuraho last month.
CJI Gavai, who spoke in a lighter vein on Tuesday, shared a joke about preventing his colleague Justice K Vinod Chandran from making certain open observations during a previous hearing to prevent potential misinterpretation.

The CJI and Justice Chandran made an objection to all the Indian Judges Association on service conditions, payment scales and career progress of judicial officials.

According to police sources, the wrong lawyer was not satisfied with the words of CJI in relation to the restoration of a Vishnu idol of a Vishnu idol in Khajuraho during the last month. A bench led by CJI rejected an instruction to reconstruct and reinstall a seven -meter idol at the Javari Temple, a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Khajuraho Temple Complex in Madhya Pradesh.

Noting the online criticism of his comments, CJI then said he respected “all religions”.
