Female student says college blocking creation of new Turning Point club, ignoring harassment

A conservative student at Beloit College in Wisconsin said his school prevented students from starting a new Turning Point USA (TPUSA) club on campus and failed to adequately protect its members from the harassment and threats they faced while trying to do so.

On October 1, Jocelyn Jordan and some of her classmates began applying to open a new Turning Point USA chapter at Beloit College. That application required them to find a faculty advisor, among other requirements to start a club on campus.

According to Jordan, every faculty member the students have requested so far has refused to help them, including the dean of students; Jordan said he was advised to form a band without the Turning Point name attached. Jordan also claimed that a member of the student body told him that even if they could find a faculty advisor, they would not be able to create a Turning Point chapter on campus.

Jordan and his classmates, meanwhile, began promoting their club on social media in mid-October, leading to a harassment campaign targeting students for their efforts to form part of the Republican caucus first founded on their campus by assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The harassment initially included disturbing images on the group’s new Instagram page, referring to Jordan and his co-founders as Nazis, Ku Klux Klan members and White supremacists, but eventually escalated into threats.

But Jordan said the university ignored students’ initial harassment concerns and told them there was nothing faculty could do because they couldn’t identify who was making the harassing posts. When the harassment escalated into threats, Jordan later filed a report with the police; It was a move that appeared to spur greater action from the university, and eventually one of the main harassers, Jordan, an alumnus who was working in campus food service at the time, was banned from campus.

“As a student, no matter what my faith is, no matter what I identify as, whoever I want to be, I should feel comfortable coming to campus. And right now, I don’t feel comfortable,” Jordan told Fox News Digital. “So it took three and a half weeks [Beloit College] “I don’t even want to address the situation, and it doesn’t give me much hope for how things will turn out at Turning Point.”

In addition to banning the graduates from campus, the college also sent an email that Jordan described as “vague” and warned students about hateful rhetoric directed at other students, noting that it came after their complaints fell on deaf ears for weeks. The email cited a recent incident in which “other Beloit students were portrayed as dangerous radicals, Nazis, or monsters seeking to do harm.”

“I would like to remind everyone that our Student Handbook states that social media harassment is prohibited conduct,” the email said. The statement was included. “It’s hard to deal thoughtfully with differences, but that’s why you came to Beloit: to learn to do hard things well and compassionately. So let’s try this. Be kind to each other. Give other students the benefit of the doubt.”

Part of the harassment campaign targeting Jordan and his classmates was driven by a now-deleted Instagram page titled “bc_friend_fan_edits,” which posted a photoshopped photo of potential Turning Point board members in Beloit around Charlie Kirk in the casket and Donald Trump on the cross. The same group also posted a sexualized depiction of a female Nazi juxtaposed with Jordan’s face. The photo was captioned: “#bullythebigots.”

Another harasser posted direct messages to the group’s new Instagram page, calling them “cowards” and laughing at the fact that they couldn’t find a faculty advisor to support them. “Be careful. Klan members (tpusa_beloit) are calling on their gang (local police) to instill fear in brown people within the community because they cannot face the consequences of their own actions,” the hopeful said in a direct message post to the TPUSA chapter’s new Instagram page. Other posts attempted to satirize Turning Point USA’s logo to create a “Meet the Campus Nazis” graphic calling out to all potential chapter members.

“Our initial post received over 75 comments in just one day, and over 90% of them were hateful. We heard every name, from Klansmen to Nazis to white supremacists. Some people even started attacking our appearance, specifically my blonde hair (which isn’t even my natural color hahaha) and blue eyes,” Jordan wrote on Facebook, and X called out her university for the lack of response to the situation.

But then the threats started coming and things got a little more serious.

“The lack of responsibility is seen, but the lack of results will not be seen,” read a comment on one of the promising TPUSA chapter’s new Instagram posts.

Several posts began calling out Jordan and his classmates for involving the police.

“The day a white supremacist Nazi puts me on trial is the day I prove why burying authoritarians is a family legacy I will carry on.” The same harasser who threatened, said that “results” would be shared on his Instagram story. “Come after me, I dare you. If I run out of ammunition, I won’t run out of options. The Second Amendment works better when it’s against the Nazis.”

“Imagine hiding your clan behind the police because you can’t face the consequences of your own actions. How clanlike you are,” said another comment on one of the group’s posts.

In response to this article, Beloit College sent a lengthy statement to Fox News Digital saying the school is “committed to promoting respectful open inquiry and encouraging diverse perspectives on campus.” The statement also emphasized that this “does not block” students’ path to club membership, noting that it is “fully consistent with campus policies” and that all potential clubs must comply with the same list of requirements.

“The College takes seriously all allegations of threats and harassment against students, including recent allegations of students interested in creating a Turning Point USA chapter,” the statement said. “Beloit College expects all members of our community to show compassion and respect for one another. We are an educational institution, and students learn best in a safe and vibrant campus environment.”

The statement also confirmed that a “recent investigation” led to an individual being banned from the Beloit College campus.

Jordan told Fox News Digital that he and his classmates did not give up. The group is still hoping to recruit a faculty advisor to the Turning Point chapter so it can become a fully functioning student organization on campus.

In response to the alleged political bias, GOP Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Josh Schoemann called on Beloit College to “certify the department.” The current governor, Democrat Tony Evers, announced plans to retire earlier this year.

“Beloit College must acknowledge the department and take immediate action to protect students from harassment and threats; anything less is a failure of leadership,” Schoemann told Fox News Digital.

“I stand with these students in their fight to create a Turning Point USA chapter,” Schoemann added, noting that as governor he will “ensure that students can freely and safely express their views on campus.”
