Missing hunter found in ‘steep drainage area’ in Lincoln County
PORTLAND, ore. (KOIN) – After the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hunter missing in the Harris Ranch area, the man is once again home with his family.
Just before midnight on Nov. 6, the hunter’s family reported finding the man’s vehicle just off Highway 34 near Tidewater, Ore. A patrol sergeant responded to the area and called for the assistance of the county’s Search and Rescue (SAR) team.

Authorities said the man was trapped in a “steep drainage area with dense brush and limited visibility.”
“SAR personnel arrived on scene and began searching the area where the hunter was believed to be,” officials said. “They found several personal items that confirmed the hunter’s previous presence and traced items further down the drain.”

According to the SAR team, the hunter was found wet but otherwise uninjured. The individual was evaluated at the scene and was able to leave the area on his own, where he was reunited with family and friends.
“The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all outdoor enthusiasts to be prepared for changing weather conditions, especially in remote wilderness areas,” officials said. “When going out in rainy or windy weather, wear water- and wind-resistant clothing. Avoid cotton clothing because they retain moisture and quickly draw heat away from the body, increasing the risk of hypothermia.”
