Man gets 20 years’ jail term for sexual assault of minor girl in Villupuram

The Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act in Villupuram on Wednesday convicted a 31-year-old man of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Special Court Judge M. Vinodha also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the accused N. Gowthaman of Mailam.

According to the prosecution, the victim visited her grandmother’s house on April 3, 2021. The perpetrator kidnapped the girl and sexually assaulted her. Tindivanam All Women police registered a case under POCSO Act and arrested Gowthaman.

The court also ordered compensation of ₹2 lakh to the victim.
