T20 World Cup 2026 results: South Africa beat Zimbabwe to set up New Zealand semi-final

South Africa put in an unconvincing performance with the bat but beat Zimbabwe by five wickets to progress to the semi-finals against New Zealand.

Dewald Brevis’s 18-ball 42 at number four proved crucial in South Africa’s chase of 154, before George Linde (30 for 21) and Tristan Stubbs (21 for 24) saw them over the line with 13 balls to spare.

South Africa, which won all seven matches in this tournament, is looking for its first championship in the T20 World Cup, having previously reached the final in 2024.

The result also confirmed that England, who finished top of Group 2 in the Super 8s, will face either India or the West Indies in the last four, with neither side failing to reach six points ahead of South Africa.

They will face each other in the final Super 8 match at 13:30 GMT, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.

“South Africa will be hard to stop. They’ve ticked every box in this tournament,” said former Australian wicketkeeper Ryan Campbell of BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.

“They have great faith in the group and are starting to enjoy the glory of their developing young players.

“Today was about getting under the reserves in case some players needed a rest.”
