A commemoration ceremony was held for an 18-year-old student who died following the meningitis outbreak in Kent, which claimed the life of another young person and caused many more young people to remain in hospital.
Juliette Kenny, a year 13 pupil at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Faversham, died on Saturday. Her family said they were “beyond devastated”, while headteacher Amelia McIlroy said: “Juliette was incredibly kind, thoughtful and intelligent… In short, she was a lovely girl; her beautiful smile, loving nature and sense of fun will be sorely missed.”
Concern in the area continues as students at the University of Kent in Canterbury queue to receive antibiotics, with some wearing face masks while waiting for treatment. Some schools have also confirmed cases of meningitis among sixth graders; Those affected were cared for in hospital while health officials continued to work to identify this strain.
