Prayag Kumbh Mela Vendors’ Team Surveys Spots

KAKINADA: East Godavari Collector Keerthi Chekuri suggested the Prayag Kumbh Mela tent house vendors team and officials to jointly plan safe accommodation for pilgrims coming for holy dips in Godavari Pushkaralu-2026.
He said there was also a need to make provisions for drainage, sanitation and security.
The team visited 16 places in Rajamahendravaram and Kovvur division on Thursday to examine the local conditions and later met the collector on Friday.
He said that a comprehensive action plan has been formulated to set up Tent Cities with a scientific approach, aiming to provide safe and comfortable accommodation facilities to devotees during the upcoming 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu.
The collector asked the officials to prepare a proposal in accordance with the plan. “All arrangements should be carried out with meticulous preliminary planning, taking into account the typical monsoon rains in June and July as well as the special geographical conditions of the Godavari river basin region.”
He said Payaga’s team has extensive experience in organizing the Kumbh Mela. The 16 places they visited were initially identified by the district administration within the limits of Rajamahendravaram and Kovvuru towns for the congregation of pilgrims.
The vendor team explained to the aggregator that they evaluated key parameters such as suitability of sites for ten installations, transportation, accessibility, security, availability of potable water, sanitation and proximity of emergency services.
They said setting up modern German Tents could be beneficial as they could provide a temporary resting place for lakhs of devotees visiting Pushkaralu. “This will allow them to rest for a while after taking their holy dip.”

He also said the team should take steps to prevent water stagnation by installing an effective drainage system.
Keerthi Chekuri suggested that separate planning should be made for VIP tents, accommodation for general devotees, special tents for officials, police stations, control rooms, medical camps and others.
He said the authorities should prepare a traffic and security plan based on the route map so that the movement of devotees can continue smoothly.
The vendor team told the collector about the challenges they faced during Prayag Kumbh Mela and suggested steps to solve them effectively.
They said that in order for the work to be completed on time, the identified areas should be delivered to the relevant implementation institutions at least 2-3 months in advance.
