Prince Harry reportedly wants his children to enjoy a traditional Scottish summer at the Balmoral royal estate and make memories with his father and grandfather, King Charles. The Prince revisited childhood memories of summers spent at Balmoral Castle in his memoir Spare and now appears to want his own children to spend a summer with the Royal Family in Scotland.
But Meghan is thought to be a bit reluctant and already has summer plans developing since it was rumored that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will be leaving school next month. The Duke of Sussex, 39, began his infamous memoir, published in January 2023, by describing what the Scottish sanctuary meant to him growing up.
He wrote: “To me, Balmoral was always just Heaven. A cross between Disney World and a sacred Druid grove. I was always too busy fishing, shooting, running up and down the ‘hill,’ to notice anything about the old castle’s feng shui,” he continued, referencing legends associated with the residence.

“What I’m trying to say is that I was happy there,” he continued. “In fact, I could never be happier than that golden summer day at Balmoral: August 30, 1997.”
Of course, that came to an abrupt end when she and Prince William were told the devastating news by their father that their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, had died in a car crash in Paris.
However, at Spare, Prince Harry goes on to describe the Royal Family’s annual Balmoral holiday as “its own micro-season” in the Scottish Highlands between summer and autumn, saying the first of their two-week stay there was spent mostly outdoors.
“My family lived to live outside, especially my grandmother, who would get annoyed if she didn’t get at least an hour of fresh air every day,” she wrote.
It also reminded her and Prince William of Balmoral’s menu, which included fish fingers, cottage pies, fried chicken and green peas.

However, according to reports, Prince Harry and Meghan do not agree on this year’s summer plans.
Insiders say Harry wants to make amends with his family and allow his two children to make precious memories with their grandfather, King Charles, by spending time at Balmoral, while Meghan is said to prefer the prospect of spending their time relaxing at her recently completed villa in Portugal.
They said the prince “truly believed that Balmoral could be the place where things would finally start to improve”. Metro.
“In Harry’s mind, this is the perfect environment for Charles to spend proper time with Archie and Lilibet,” the source said.
“Harry feels that time is precious and that children need to see their grandparents now. There is a growing urgency about wanting children to make memories with Charles.”

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said: “If someone has idyllic childhood memories of a place, it’s natural they want to share it with their nearest and dearest. So it’s no surprise that a desire to take Archie and Lili to Balmoral to see King Charles has been reported.”
“As the King will not be at Balmoral at that time, it is unlikely that the Invictus Games will be part of his anticipated visit in July, when he celebrates ‘One Year to Go’ before Birmingham next year. However, if Harry and Meghan travel to Portugal, where they have a home, later in the year, a visit while they are based there from mid-August may be possible.”
But Mr Fitzwilliams points out that a Scottish getaway isn’t for everyone. He added: “But Balmoral isn’t everyone’s idea of paradise.
“Harry found it that way. Diana is known to have hated it. Meghan is unlikely to be receptive to the idea of visiting Balmoral; sporting activities such as hunting and deer hunting and its outdoor ethos are unappealing.”
In fact, Prince Harry even sold his handmade hunting rifles in 2020 and gave up sports out of respect for Meghan’s strong animal rights views.
Although Meghan reportedly “banned” him from entertainment, their mutual friend environmentalist Jane Goodall noted that it was Harry’s own decision to stop following his wife’s ethical beliefs.
It was also thought that the couple were invited to Balmoral by the late Queen Elizabeth between 2017 and 2019 but were rejected.
Mr Fitzwilliams believes Prince Harry is more likely to bring his children to Scotland without Meghan.
She added: “If Harry were to ever get close to some of his family again, it would make more sense for him to do it alone and take his grandchildren with him, at least without Meghan to start with.
“King Charles would be delighted to see Archie and Lili again. But the Sussexes’ recent behavior and recent conversations make ending the royal scam even more difficult. Perhaps Balmoral is the place to start ending it?”
