ICC chief Jay Shah to meet Sri Lanka President Dissanayake over SLC interim committee issue

Shah will travel on the first direct flight between Ahmedabad and Colombo.
Shah is expected to discuss the appointment of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) interim committee, which he sees as contrary to the ICC’s rules on the functioning of national cricket governing bodies.
Sri Lankan Sports Minister Sunil Kumar Gamage appointed the current interim committee to run the SLC in late April.
According to cricket sources here, the ICC sent a letter to SLC CEO Ashley de Silva last week. Although the contents of the letter were not made public, it was believed that the world governing body insisted on democratic elections being held without delay to conduct the affairs of the SLC.
The ad hoc committee expected the ICC to give it indefinite time to implement reforms, including the creation of a new constitution for the governing body.
The interim committee replaces the executive committee elected in 2025, chaired by Shammi Silva, whose term is scheduled to end in May next year. Silva and his team resigned after being told to do so by Dissanayake, who apparently expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of his committee.
In 2024, the then sports minister’s action in sacking Silva’s management led to the ICC suspending Sri Lanka’s membership. The ICC Under-19 World Cup was later awarded to South Africa due to Sri Lanka’s suspension.
The ICC lifted the ban after the local court appointed Silva as head of the SLC.
