Lee Hockey murder: New CCTV images released one year after man’s body found in Cornish woods

Detectives investigating the death of a man found in woods in Cornwall have released new CCTV footage in a renewed appeal.

A major investigation was launched after the body of a 50-year-old man was found in woodland between Truro and Probus in Cornwall on July 1 last year.

Devon and Cornwall Police said Mr Hockey’s death was treated as unexplained and foul play was not ruled out.

Detectives are continuing ongoing investigations and searches to establish the circumstances of his death and trace his final movements.

The last confirmed sighting of Mr. Hockey was in the Trispen area on June 23.

“We as the Lee Hockey family are grateful for all the support over the last 12 months but we are still considering closure for what happened to him,” his family said in a statement released by police.

“If anyone has any information, no matter how small, please come forward.

“Lee would be watching the World Cup this year and was a keen Arsenal supporter.

“We would also like to thank all the police for the difficult task of searching the woods and ponds for Lee’s missing bag.”

A year later, detectives launched a new public appeal for information and released new CCTV footage of him in the days before he was found.

They are asking for help finding some of their lost personal belongings.

These include a black satchel-style bag seen in Mr Hockey’s new CCTV footage filmed at the Tesco Express in Truro on June 22.

His passport, Barclays debit card with Lee Hockey’s full name on it, and his pink iPhone 13 are also missing.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Smith, who is leading the investigation, said: “Lee’s family are marking the one-year anniversary of his loss and there are still many unanswered questions about the lead-up to his death.

“While we are very grateful for the help we have received from the public so far, we still believe someone may have critical information that will help us find out what happened to them.

“Some of Lee’s personal belongings are still in exceptional condition and we would urge anyone who has found or seen these important items to get in touch.

“These may contain vital information to assist our investigation into Lee’s death and we are asking you to come forward.”

Detectives pieced together Mr. Hockey’s known movements in the days before his death.

He spent most of June 23 in downtown Truro before catching a bus to the Trispen area, and his last confirmed sighting was there later that evening.

His current whereabouts are unknown, but it is possible that he came on foot.

Mr Smith said: “We are still looking forward to hearing from anyone who saw Lee between June 32 and July 1.

“Anyone passing through Trispen, Tresillian or surrounding villages is asked to contact us and we would ask anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage in these areas to check if they have seen Lee.

“Any information, no matter how small, can be vital to our investigations.”
