Is Lady Beckham launching a menswear collection? David Beckham wears suit made by his wife to receive knighthood – as experts say it would be a ‘natural progression’ for her label

The eponymous fashion brand is known for elegant, feminine silhouettes that aim to ‘become a staple in the modern woman’s wardrobe’.

However, this morning, 51-year-old Victoria Beckham took her first step into the men’s clothing industry; She just experienced the “proudest” moment of her husband’s life.

Today, David, 50, was finally knighted by King Charles at Windsor Castle after years of aspiration for his services to sport and charity.

This was the perfect opportunity for Lady Beckham, as she will now be known, to launch her first menswear line, with David wearing a tailored three-piece morning suit personally designed and tailored by her husband.

The suit is made from an English wool and mohair blend in a dark charcoal grey, and features a sharply cut collar and tailcoat.

Meanwhile, Victoria wore a special version of her brand’s Bela dress; This perhaps symbolized the future of the fashion brand: a dual approach to both men’s and women’s clothing.

Since its launch 17 years ago, Victoria’s designs have been worn by the Princess of Wales, Meghan Markle, Lady Gaga, Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Gal Gadot and Naomi Campbell.

But despite glowing celebrity endorsements, the brand has had mixed luck over the years, first turning a profit in 2022 after her husband gave her a bailout worth millions.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, fashion experts explained that a move into menswear would be a “natural progression” for Victoria Beckham’s fashion empire, especially in terms of securing the brand’s financial future.

This morning, David Beckham, 50, was finally knighted by King Charles at Windsor Castle after years of aspiration for his services to sport and charity.

British stylist Lisa Talbot said: ‘It would be a very natural progression for Victoria Beckham to move into menswear.

‘His brand has always been based on refined tailoring, clean silhouettes and understated luxury, all of which is reflected beautifully in his menswear.

‘David has been her muse for years, and we’ve already seen glimpses of his aesthetic through the custom pieces he creates for himself and his sons.

‘Launching a men’s clothing line could also inject new energy into his business. The menswear market has grown steadily over the last few years and David’s presence as a living ambassador gives the brand instant credibility.

‘What’s interesting is that Victoria’s designs have matured from the ultra-flashy dresses of her early collections to a more structured, minimalist aesthetic that men’s fashion is increasingly embracing.’

PR expert Chad Teixeira added: ‘A Victoria Beckham menswear line could attract a new audience and bring renewed commercial energy to the brand, especially if it balances her signature sophistication with David’s more relaxed, British sensibility.’

This isn’t the first time Victoria has heralded a possible breakthrough into men’s fashion; because he appeared to hint at a soft launch in June last year when he designed a suit for their youngest son, 20-year-old Cruz.

Cruz is said to have prepared a few more casual outfits for him to wear at the Paris Fashion Week shows.

Interestingly, David was wearing a suit his wife designed for the 'proudest moment' of his life so far.

Interestingly, David was wearing a suit his wife designed for the ‘proudest moment’ of his life so far.

At the time, he shared a story on Instagram, wearing a classic pinstripe jacket, white shirt and red tie, tagging his mother’s account as @victoriabeckham.

Delighted, Victoria later reposted the look of her story, confirming that she had designed it herself, and wrote: ‘Special VB for Crusie!!’

Meanwhile, the former singer is currently selling a £550 ‘men’s’ denim shirt on her website; This is perhaps a small hint of what will happen in the future.

The piece embodies “traditional masculine design codes” with an “oversized cut for an off-duty aesthetic,” including a front pocket and tobacco-colored topstitching.

On how this might look in her future brand, Lisa said: ‘If she takes this step, I think we could see a continuation of her signature sensibility, sleek, sharp-cut suits, tonal layering and luxurious fabrics. ‘He can expand the reach of his brand while remaining true to his identity as a modern and sophisticated designer.’

Chad added: ‘The transition must be handled carefully. Victoria Beckham’s brand ethos is based on precision and elegance, so expanding into menswear should feel like an extension of her creative DNA, not a marketing effort.

‘Consumers today can instantly recognize authenticity, and the success of a movement like this depends on organic, rather than opportunistic, storytelling.

To make a menswear line truly successful, Victoria will need to lean into what has always set it apart; It’s a timeless design instinct and a deep understanding of personal branding.

‘Collaborating with David formally or simply as a source of creative inspiration will provide instant credibility and visibility, but it is equally important that the collection stands on its own creative merit.

‘The focus on exceptional tailoring, premium materials and understated luxury will resonate with modern male consumers who value quiet confidence over flashy logos.

‘A strong digital strategy, storytelling rooted in British craftsmanship and partnerships that highlight the Beckham family’s global influence can create a powerful launch moment.’

Ahead of Tuesday’s ceremony, the Daily Mail revealed the secret project for David’s suit began in June, when the couple learned the former Manchester United star would be knighted in the King’s Birthday Honors.

David went to his wife’s workshop at their offices in West London for a few fittings and is said to be “extremely happy” with the results.

A friend of the couple told the Daily Mail: ‘David has been teasing Victoria about never making clothes for her.

‘So when they learned in the spring that David would be having his big day in Windsor later in the year, Victoria decided she had enough time to make it happen.

‘He had never done anything like this before and was aware it would be time consuming but Victoria knew the investment would be some time away,’ a source said.

‘Victoria got to work, designing the three-piece suit and, as she doesn’t do anything by halves, she threw herself into it and made sure it was absolutely perfect.

‘David wearing a Victoria Beckham outfit will make a special day even more special.’

The couple are worth £500 million, according to this year’s Sunday Times Rich List. But the Victoria Beckham fashion brand is far from plain sailing.

The brand, which has offices in London and New York and a flagship store in Mayfair, has won the Best Designer Brand and Brand of the Year awards at the British Fashion Council Fashion Award in the past.

Despite initial success with celebrity support, by 2016 the company had “suffered tens of millions in losses” and incurred losses of over £66 million.

By 2019, David Beckham had reportedly saved his wife’s fashion brand with a £23 million cash injection.

The former England footballer gave Victoria’s company a £4 million loan, as well as £6.6 million in cash, in Spring 2016 to keep his business afloat.

At the end of 2022, Victoria’s business finally took off, showing a profit of £200,000, 14 years after the former pop star began her entrepreneurial journey.

The fashion and beauty business reportedly more than doubled in revenue, with sales rising 52% to £89 million last year from £59 million in 2022.

An £890 handbag, £30 eyeliner and a carefully planned social media strategy featuring post-makeup tutorial videos on TikTok were all responsible for the comeback.

As Victoria turned 50, a friend told the Daily Mail: ‘It feels like two special milestones have come together. Victoria is very happy.’

The designer told Vogue France in October 2024 that the brand announced it had finally turned a profit, more than a decade after launching its fashion label.

‘This is just the beginning. I have many goals and I work hard to achieve my goals. “I never expect things to fall into my lap,” he said.

‘It’s a very exciting time. We made a profit this year! This takes time, especially for an independent brand. My perfume is not a license; I have it.

‘Now that I have laid the foundation of the house, the real work can begin.’

But in August, the Guardian reported that losses had escalated once again and the brand had taken out a £6.2 million loan to tide itself over the difficulties.

But all hope was not lost.

“If she combines her meticulous eye for detail with a modern understanding of how men actually dress today, Victoria Beckham’s menswear could become one of the most commercially and culturally important parts of her brand, while also securing its future financially,” commented Chad.

Fashion Consultant Alison Lowe MBE said: ‘If executed well, the move into luxury menswear could really strengthen the brand and the “Beckham brand”, but there are also risks.

‘The brand has a strong womenswear aesthetic and identity that can weaken if not managed carefully. There is also financial risk in developing a completely new category that will require significant extra investment in design, production, marketing and retail.

‘The safe option would be to try menswear through a capsule collection to test the market.

‘The Victoria Beckham brand could look quite different if menswear were integrated into the label, but this could be the brand refresh and financial boost the brand needs to improve its long-term stability.’
