After Absconding for 2 Weeks, Rahul Mamkootathil Turns Up to Vote in Local Body Polls

Palakkad: Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil arrived to cast his vote in local elections in Kunnathurmedu constituency here on Thursday.

The Palakkad MLA came to vote after securing protection from arrest in two sexual assault cases against him.

Mamkooathil was on the run for over two weeks after the first FIR for sexual assault and forced abortion was registered against him.

When the MLA came out of the dais after casting his vote, he was surrounded by journalists who peppered him with questions about where he had been hiding so far and what he would say about the allegations against him.

Mamkootathil finally said that what he had to say was before the court.

Later, the MLA immediately left the polling booth in a vehicle with his board as activists of CPI(M)’s youth wing DYFI held up banners with photographs of cradles and roosters and shouted at him.

The Palakkad MLA is also facing a second case of sexual assault following a complaint from another woman living in Bengaluru.

In the first case, he was granted interim protection from arrest by the Kerala High Court and in the second, he obtained bail from a sessions court in Thiruvananthapuram.
