Brown University shooter kills 2, wounds 8 during finals week as manhunt continues

Brown University became the latest campus to respond to a mass shooting at the elite Rhode Island Ivy League institution on Saturday that left at least two people dead and eight others injured during finals week.

While police continued to search for the male suspect, in response to the shooting, a shelter in place order was issued in the area and streets were closed.

“This is an extremely tragic day for Brown, our families, and our local community. There are no words that can truly express the profound sadness we feel for the victims of today’s shooting at the Barus & Holley engineering and physics building,” Brown University President Christina H. Paxson said in a message to the campus community. he said.

Rhode Island Hospital is on lockdown but still accepting patients in the emergency room.

President Donald Trump said he was informed about the attack.

“What a terrible thing this is,” the President said. “All we can do right now, it seems, is pray for the victims and those who were so badly injured. … We’ll update you later on what’s going on, but it’s a shame. Let’s pray.”

Brown University, an Ivy League school founded in 1764, is a leading nonprofit research university located in Providence, Rhode Island.

The institution has more than 11,000 students and 5,500 employees, including nearly 900 regular faculty members.

Brown University’s endowment is $8 billion, making it one of the wealthiest institutions in the country.

Saturday’s shooting was the latest shooting on a college campus in the United States.

One student was killed and another was seriously injured in a shooting at Kentucky State University on Tuesday.

There were other shootings on college campuses earlier this year, including the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University in September and the shooting at Florida State University in April that left two people dead and seven injured.
